A lot of times in a start-up we could use all the help and free stuff we can get, especially if you have a shoestring budget to work with. Well if you are thinking of starting a t-shirt business you will find that one of the most important tools you will need is a photo editing software.

Software for manipulating photos into wearable designs can get very expensive but it doesn’t always have to cost you an arm and a leg. For instance, I recommend Adobe Photoshop for photo editing. Adobe Photoshop is the industry standard software for image editing but it has a steep learning curve and can cost over $600. There are other cheaper programs out there that do a fairly good job but you are still talking about $100. Well I’ve got something for you.

  I was told about a photo editing software that’s supposed to be pretty good and best of all…..it’s free! Yep. Free! No strings attached. Just download it off of the website. The software is called GIMP. GIMP is an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed program for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. It has many capabilities. It can be used as a simple paint program, an expert quality photo retouching program, an online batch processing system, a mass production image renderer, an image format converter, etc.

 You simply can’t go wrong trying your hands at this software. It would be perfect for those just starting out in a t-shirt business who needs to save every way they can. But here’s the thing…..it’s not just some free crappy program. From what I have heard it’s a really good program. I have not tried it yet because I am a Photoshop nut but I am interested to hear your feedback on it. Maybe I can free up some time myself to play around with it.
